WE SET THE TREND FOR GREENER FESTIVALS IN THE MIDLANDS!
Having agreed to partner the Environment Agency to achieve a greener 2009 festival, Birmingham Pride asked us to come up with some new "green initiatives" to help them along, as well as designing, branding, sourcing and implementing the whole idea.
We came up with the concept of branded pint glasses that were made out of recyclable and reusable plastic. A festival-goer can buy a glass for £1, keep reusing it, then give it back for a refund of their £1. Or they could keep the glass as a souvenir! The scheme was hugely successful, massively minimising street litter, catching the eye of BBC News, and, of course, leading everyone who heard about it down the same path.
Nottingham, Leicester and Telford gay festivals soon followed in our green footsteps. We are proud to have helped build the Midlands' reputation for taking the lead in greener initiatives, ahead of Manchester and London's competing festivals.
